Spring Clean-Up 2024 – Volunteers Needed

We are looking for 30 volunteers to help us Saturday, May 4th for our annual beach, marina and common grounds clean up. We will begin at 9:00am. SBIA will provide donuts, bagels and coffee. Your helping hands are all that is necessary to participate; if you have them, please also bring rakes, shovels, wheel borrows, gloves, and any other tool that you think can be useful. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Note that the SBIA Board is always looking to control costs, so this volunteer event is a great way to keep our maintenance costs lower, and for you to contribute some of your time to help spruce up our community, and meet some of your neighbors!

However, over the years, it’s usually the same small group of participants that do this work on behalf of all of the residents of Shady Beach. Growing that group of volunteers is necessary to share the load, so please consider joining the effort this year. Any and all help is needed and greatly appreciated.

The areas that will be worked on are listed below. As you can see there is a lot to be done but with an adequate turnout, these projects can be completed by the end of the morning.

Beach grounds:

Clean up, weed, mulch and remove tree east of gate.
Rototill the grass out of the sand at beach.
Spread new sand at beach.
Install beach boundary buoys.
Install sprinkler system pump hose at lake.

Marina:

Boat ramp, Fill holes at end of ramp with gravel. (Waders/wetsuits may be needed.)
Clean up, weed, mulch, kill weeds in gravel and around garage
Remove ferns from behind garage (give away
to anyone that wants.)
Add topsoil as needed and seed.
Fill low spots as needed and seed.
Paint security camera poles in Marina.
