Hello SBIA Members!
It was great to have some new and longtime residents attend the most recent General Membership meeting on April 15th. Our agenda of topics to cover was long, thus I’ll be brief but thorough here with more info you can find in the newsletter under these topics.
- Bulletin Board at the Park: As you all probably noticed our bulletin board literally blew over a couple of months back due to dry routing of the posts in the ground. Chuck Broadwater did an amazing job of refurbishing and then reinstalling. Big SHOUT OUT to Chuck for volunteering to do this work!
- Work Party: We’ve scheduled our SBIA Work Party for Saturday May 4th @ 9am. We have a very long list of projects to complete. We are asking residents to sign up in advance for the project(s) you would like to help with. There is an easy signup form on the post. By signing up in advance we will have the needed materials ready for the project team the day of the event. Our goal is to have residents sign up in advance so we can better plan this work. Click here for details and signup form.
- 100 Year Party: We have picked August 17th as the day to celebrate this special anniversary. We are calling for volunteers to help in the planning and management of this event. Click here for the details and form to volunteer.
- Boat Dock Reassignment Meeting: Two docks (#11 & #19) have become available. If you are on the Waitlist or interested in moving docks, the meeting will be held on Thursday, April 25th at 6pm at the beach Pavilion.
- Master Plan Committee: The Board has approved a small budget to be set aside to secure a landscape plan for the marina and beach.
- Membership Campaign Committee: A new committee was formed to conduct outreach to non-members.
- SBIA Member Directory: We would like to update and publish an electronic SBIA Member and Residents Directory. We will only publish the information you opt in to provide. Please do expect a call and/or email from Peggy Donovan who will be reaching out to validate information and participation.
- Music on the Lake Event: SBIA will again be hosting one of the Music on the Lake events at our beach on July 12th the day before the Fireworks. Music on the Lake is 4 annual concert events at 3 different beach locations open to all Upper Straits Lake residents. These events are highlights of the summer season. We are now asking Shady Beach residents to make a donation via SBIA, and then we will pay the Bands. Donations can be made via a check to SBIA and dropped off at Jill Segals house, OR via Venmo to @ShadyBeach using the phone number 248.681.3474 to verify. For details click here.
- New Boat Dock Chairman: With Brad Filips moving on, the Board has appointed Rafael Larrauri as our new Boat Dock Chairman. Brad Filips has done an amazing job and we are super appreciative of all the time and dedication he gave back to our community!
- Upper Straits Clean Lake Association (USCLA): USCLA is a great resource to learn more about our lake, lake safety, weed management, etc.
